psicologo lapalma

Do you feel that a psychologist in La Palma could help you at this moment?

I suppose if you’ve come this far, it’s because you’re considering or have considered seeing a psychologist on the island of La Palma. It’s quite common to wonder if a psychologist could help us, if they are the right professional for our problem, how effective their psychological model is, or simply how much time and money the psychotherapeutic process will cost us. For this reason, I would like to clarify some of these doubts so that you can be sure that this is the most suitable professional for you.

My name is Darío García Rodríguez and I am a psychologist. I graduated in psychology from the University of La Laguna in 2012, and since the beginning of my professional career, the conviction to offer a quality service that is economically accessible has been a constant throughout these years.

Among my values, I emphasize authenticity, self-determination, and uniqueness, collaboration, diversity, equality, and the inclusion of people and groups, being these a beacon that illuminates my therapeutic practice as a psychologist.

In addition to the values mentioned above, other aspects that characterize my psychological practice are: The power of stories, that is, we people give meaning to our lives through the stories we tell about ourselves and others; the multistoried nature of identity; the importance of the use of language and the dominant social discourses that exert power over people and groups; and the uniqueness of the individual, culture, and society.

In short, I could say that my work as a psychologist consists of opening windows where there used to be walls.

After working for over 7 years in the United Kingdom as a home-based therapist and director of centers for dependent people, with mental health problems, autism, and intellectual disabilities, I decided to return to La Palma with the dream of being able to open my own psychological office, which today is beginning to become a reality.

Currently, the psychological attention I provide is at home and online, and among the services I offer, I highlight: Family, couple, and individual intervention (children, adolescents, and adults), loss and grief, trauma, addictions, chronic and rare diseases, social and community intervention, intervention in crises, disasters, and emergencies, situations of violence and gender violence, person-centered attention, attention to dependent people, with autism and functional diversity.

It is thought that seeing a psychologist involves prolonged treatment focused on past traumas. This leads people to have doubts about making an appointment with a psychology professional, due to the high cost of treatment and the need to present their past conflicts for therapy to be effective.

Many people have doubts about psychologists. Does what we do work? Psychology is a scientific discipline, the treatments applied are backed by research. And outcome studies say that people resolve their problems in consultation in 3 out of 4 cases.
